Karakuri are mechanized puppets or automata from Japan dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The word "Karakuri" means a "mechanical device to tease, trick, or take a person by surprise." Japanese designer Keisuke Saka created this papercraft kit series filled with surprises and a dose of dark humor. Hesitation is an innovative aviator who seems to doubt his flying machine. Mr. Saka is one of Japan's most honored paper engineers. His thoughtfully rendered designs use the fewest moving parts to communicate their magical, elegant movement. Cutting, folding and gluing required in assembly. Each one takes less than two hours of time to complete. Completely instructions included. Surprisingly robust if correctly built.

Packaging: Packed in a 8 1/2" x 11" sleeve with a colorful cover.
This item normally ships in 48 hours.

Art that functions. This cast ceramic grammaphone by Tristan Zimmerman for Science+Sons works without external power or batteries. Just plug in the earbuds from your iPod or MP3player. Exploiting horn acoustics, sound is amplified by resonating via the horn up to 55 decibels (roughly the max volume of laptop speakers). The treble buzzing is instantly and profoundly transformed into a warm, rich and resonant sound. Patent Pending. As Canadian inventor Tristan asks, why-fi?

DANIEL LOVES OBJECTS

"The designer behind Daniel loves objects is an industrial designer who is currently residing in Singapore . He enjoys conceptualization for feasible concepts that fuses a poetic touch in it. He gets inspired by the things around him, the current products that sit around the environment to the animals and plants that roam around in the wild, even to the extreme of the political uproars that are happening globally. On his approached towards ideation of a concept, he tries to inject some form of interactive factor into it so that the user will have a form of remembrance when he relates with the product, a kind of reminiscence that will perhaps strike up some joy and relationship when a connection is made. He is always ready to be inspired from and aspired for the many objects that sit around us, knowing that design could always transform a certain mundane individual, allowing it to exude a form of language that will speak to the surrounding environment, expressing a form of finesse between human, object and technology."

Transformer-shelf

Photobucket
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Transformer-shelf by Martin SämmerPhotobucket
The design of this object allows to participate in the evolution of its shape. By using the TRANSFORMER-SHELF you will constantly rearrange the different units towards each other, creating myriad different shapes. This will have an influence on your impression of the object, the cognition of the surrounding room and the way you identify yourself with the Object. Everybody can put his own ideas into the Object. In the end, the design becomes a process that will be partly submitted to the CONSUMER, who will also partly become a shape-PRODUCER, and therefore a ‘Design-PROSUMER’.
